Program Note

The title, The Other Side of the Sky, is a translation of the word Kaluhyat in the language of the Oneida Indian nation. I found it to be a very evocative phrase that took on many shades of meanings for me as I was composing the piece. At any given moment it might have symbolized a far away place, a flight of imagination, the passage of a soul from this world to the next, thinking about the future, an unreachable destination, a nostalgic look back on life, a kaleidoscope of colors, the most perfect golf drive, superman throwing a ball...

This piece was written for the Fibonacci Trio during my tenure as composer in residence at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, Montreal. P.F.

Le titre de cette pièce est une traduction du mot Kaluhyat de la langue parlée par les Oneidas. Durant la période de composition de ce trio cette phrase évocatrice a pris pour moi de nombreuses significations; elle faisait parfois reference à un endroit éloigné, un vol plane de mon imagination, le passage d'une âme ver << l'autre monde >>, une pensée à propos du future, un lieu inatteignable, un regard nostalgique sur la vie passée, un kaléidoscope de couleurs, un sublime coup au golf, Superman lançant une balle...

Cette pièce à été composée pour le Trio Fibonacci dans le cadre de mes activités comme compositeur resident de la Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur.
